SABARIMALA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured to provide all assistance for the overall development of Sabarimala. “The assurance was given to a high-level delegation of the Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS) led by president Krishnakumar, founder Kummanam Rajasekharan and general secretary Erode N Rajan, who met the Prime Minister in Kochi the other day,” Erode Rajan said here on Wednesday.
The SASS delegation, in a memorandum submitted to Narendra Modi, requested for the declaration of Sabarimala as a national pilgrim centre.
“For the overall development of Sabarimala, the SASS sought setting up of Greater Sabarimala Development Authority, a autonomous body comprising officials of Central and State governments, and voluntary institutions engaged in the service of pilgrims. These institutions can formulate and implement projects for the pilgrims,” Rajan said.
“The samajam delegation sought a multi-pronged strategy for the protection and preservation of Pampa on the lines of Ganga Action Plan,” he said adding that the strategy should involve long-term steps to stop pollution of the river by setting up sewage treatment plant and solid waste treatment plants at Sannidhanam,Pampa and Nilackal.
The SASS team also sought the Prime Minister’s intervention in the augmentation of the water storage capacity of Kunnar dam, the important water sources of Sabarimala, by raising the height of the dam to 10 m from the present 5m. The delegation sought measures for the installation of a ropeway linking Sannidhanam with Pampa to carry pooja items and other essential goods for the free food distributed to the pilgrims from Pampa instead of the tractors which cause hardships to the pilgrims.
The other requests of the team included immediate release of Rs 1,000 crore fund for setting up schemes to provide basic facilities.
